The Anand Karaj is conducted in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and is a sacred ceremony that binds a man and woman in a spiritual union.
The spouse is a companion and a life partner with whom to trend the divine path of Sikhi
Kurmai - Engagement
The Kurmai ceremony precedes the Anand Karaj ceremony. The Kurmai ceremony is traditionally held in the Gurdwara. The brides family brings shagan in form of gifts and dried fruits for the bride groom and his family.
Kirtan is performed and followed by Ardas to proceed with Kurmai. Then some members of the brides side give shagan to the bridegroom.
Akhand Path
The continuous recitation of Guru Granth Sahib Ji from beginning to the end in 31 Raagas and 1430 Angs (pages).
It takes a minimum of 48 hours by a team of readers. This ritual is considered very holy and brings peace / solace to all the participants.
Akhand Path is usually recited on major religious days and on happy occassions.
Sehaj Path
Sehaj Path is reciting the Guru Granth Sahib Ji from beginning to end with no time limits for completion. It is read by granthi's or the families themselves.
Again for happy occassions and also on passing away of someone and bhog is recited on the day of funeral.
Sukhmani Sahib Path
Sukhmani Sahib is bani divided into 24 sections and is on Ang 262 in Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Eash section is called Ashtpadi (Asht means 8), consist of 8 hymns per Ashtpadi.
The word Sukhmani literally means Sukh - Peace and Mani means Treasure.
